♰ BASICS
Character's name: Uchiha Sasuke
Canon: Naruto
Canon point: Vol 72, Ch 699
Age: 18
Background: Wiki link
Abilities: Due to unfortunately being a main character in a shounen series, this section is A Lot. And this is as "spark notes" as I could get it. You can view everything in more detail on his wiki here.
CHAKRA Essentially the "life force" that powers all jutsu in the Naruto universe. Sasuke's reserves are immense, which is commented upon continuously throughout the series, and although his control isn't as fine-tuned as his former teammate, Sakura, he still boasts extreme skill with its use. His chakra generally carries a dark and sinister aura, remarked as feeling "cold" by Karin, who is a sensor type.
  • SIX PATHS CHAKRA Having been gifted half of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki's special chakra, Sasuke is made even stronger and is compared to the Sage of the Six Paths now that he possesses this power. Canonically, the extent of this chakra lacks clarity, but it does appear to dramatically improve Sasuke's jutsu and also gives him access to additional abilities (see the section on the Rinnegan and the Six Paths Technique).

  • CURSED SEAL This is the Cursed Seal of Heaven placed on him by Orochimaru during Part I. At the time, it gave him enhanced abilities such as increased speed and strength, and it also allowed a more powerful transformed state with additional physical features (namely wings). The curse seal is removed from him by Itachi in Part II, however he still retains compatibility with Jugo, who is the source of cursed seals, and Jugo can aid Sasuke in battle as a result.

TAIJUTSU He is adept with hand-to-hand combat, or taijutsu, which is a basic technique taught to all shinobi and generally does not involve chakra. According to official stats, his score is 3.5 out of 5 in this area.

NINJUTSU Ninjutsu, or ninja techniques, is one of Sasuke's specializations. These are techniques that primarily use chakra. The definition is broad but generally excludes anything that would be considered strictly taijutsu (body techniques) or genjutsu (illusion techniques). According to official stats, his score is 5 out of 5. A few of his most frequently used ninjutsu are animal summoning and shadow clones. His other ninjutsu tend to be utilized through dōjutsu and are specified in the below subsections.

BUKIJUTSU These are weapon techniques, often using a variety of different ninja tools in combat. Sasuke is frequently seen making use of weapons on the battlefield. He excels with shuriken and kunai, attaching wire to manipulate their trajectory as well as electrify the strings with nature transformation. He's gone as far to place seals on his arms that allow him to summon weapons from a large stored supply while in the heat of a fight. During the majority of Part II, he also wields the Sword of Kusanagi, a straight blade or 'chokuto', both offensively and defensively. Like his other weapons, he can infuse the sword with lightning.

NATURE TRANSFORMATION Manipulation of nature (i.e. elements) such as fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water. Uchiha have an affinity for fire release, and Sasuke also mastered lightning release earlier on in the series. By his current canon point, he can use all five in addition to 'yin release', which is essentially spiritual energy. Presumably genjutsu falls into the yin category of nature transformation.

INTELLIGENCE, STRENGTH, SPEED, STAMINA Sasuke's stats for these areas are all 3.5 out of 5, with the exception of speed at 4 out of 5. He is known for his ability to intelligently think on his feet during battle, adapting his moves based on his opponent's skills. His speed is particularly exceptional; due to the need to keep up with the Sharingan's capacity, he's spent a lot of time training to be faster and responsive in combat.

GENJUTSU These are illusory techniques that manipulate the chakra within a person's cerebral nervous system. Uchiha are well known, with the power of Sharingan, for using genjutsu on their opponents. Naturally it's an area where Sasuke excels. By controlling the chakra flow within someone's mind, genjutsu allows the user to implant false images or illusions instead, warping their perception of reality.

DŌJUTSU Specifically, jutsu that utilize the eyes (eye techniques).
  • SHARINGAN One of the most famous dōjutsu, known as a kekkei genkai (bloodline limit) inherent in the Uchiha clan. In order to acquire this ability, the individual who possesses the kekkei genkai must undergo a powerful emotional experience, generally negative and almost always in connection to a loved one. Uchiha are known to be emotional by nature (see the Curse of Hatred mentioned below); the Sharingan is clearly tied to this predisposition.

The Sharingan's abilities can be narrowed into subsets: 1) "Eye of Insight", and 2) "Eye of Hypnotism." The former allows the user to see chakra and detect irregularities in chakra flow while also enhancing perception skills in general. They can read lips, mimic movements, memorize jutsu, and to an extent even use this pattern recognition to make accurate future predictions in battle. The latter is related to abilities generally used on an opponent's mind, hence 'hypnotism'. They can suggest thoughts or actions to a target, divulge information from another's mind, or even go as far as controlling that person completely.

  • MANGEKYOU SHARINGAN An advanced version of the Sharingan. It has all of the Sharingan's previously listed abilities, in addition to more powerful skills that are unique to each user in possession of Mangekyou. For Sasuke, he is able to cast and shape Amaterasu, black flames that cannot be put out until they completely destroy their intended target. He can also use Susano-o, which creates a humanoid avatar out of his chakra that surrounds him and fights on his behalf.

  • ETERNAL MANGEKYOU SHARINGAN The main feature of this dōjutsu is that it must be transplanted from a previous owner of the Mangekyou Sharingan to be obtained. This avoids the deterioration of eyesight that happens through use of the Mangekeyou Sharingan. In Sasuke's case, he transplanted his brother's, Itachi's, eyes into himself to achieve this. In addition to preventing blindness, it also reduces chakra drain. Otherwise its abilities remain comparable to the regular Mangekyou Sharingan, except that it changes the tomoe pattern of the eye.

  • RINNEGAN Rarer and perhaps more powerful than even the Sharingan, the Rinnegan is another famous dōjutsu that Sasuke possesses in his left eye thanks to Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki's chakra. It is constantly active and cannot be disengaged the way his Sharingan can. It has some similar skills as the Sharingan, such as seeing chakra flow, but it can also see through obstructions and sense invisible barriers. Additionally, it allows Sasuke to use Amenotejikara, a space-time ninjutsu, where he can shift places with something else in proximity to him. He's also capable of opening portals to other dimensions.

  • SIX PATHS TECHNIQUE This is the primary feature of Sasuke's Rinnegan.
  • DEVA PATH Allows the user to manipulate forces of attraction and repulsion, similar to a magnet, pushing/pulling enemies or objects in their vicinity.
  • ASURA PATH Allows the user to alter their body with mechanized armor or other weaponry.
  • HUMAN PATH Allows the user to read a person's mind and also remove their soul.
  • ANIMAL PATH Summons animals or creatures.
  • PRETA PATH Allows the user to absorb chakra.
  • NARAKA PATH Allows the user to summon the King of Hell, either for interrogation (preventing the target from lying) or for restoration/healing.
  • OUTER PATH The control of life and death, allowing the user to revive the dead, transmit chakra into receivers, or create chains of chakra.

  • OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES
  • Sasuke is immune to poison due to years of training with Orochimaru, who tested experimental drugs on him to enhance his strength and speed.
  • After losing his left arm (he is ambidextrous but left-arm dominant), he's learning how to use one-handed seals.
  • He suffers the Curse of Hatred, an ideal or affliction of his clan, where his strong emotions overtake his sense of reason. Uchiha are extremely loving and affectionate by nature, but if the object of their affection is harmed or killed, or they are betrayed somehow, this love can transform into obsessive and uncontrollable hatred. The theory is that, supposedly because the Sharingan is tied to the optic nerves and is trigged by intense feeling, Uchiha have a propensity toward extreme and inconsolable despair. It may be one reason the Uchiha always strive to conceal their emotions, in addition to shinobi culture more generally.
  • He is the reincarnation of Indra, first born son of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki.

  • IN-GAME NERFS All game-breaking abilities, such as portal creation and the majority of the Six Paths Technique, will be nerfed. I am also going to operate under the assumption that chakra is unreliable in Nightfell, so even if Sasuke does try to use his more powerful abilities like Amaterasu, it may backfire or severely weaken him in the process. My main goal with Sasuke's abilities is not to play him as extremely OP (even if he is by nature of the source material), but to make character development fun and interesting. I don't expect to use most of the abilities listed above except as flavor for developing CR.

    ♰ SUITABILITY

    Strengths:
+ DETERMINED. Having nursed an inferiority complex in his older brother's shadow throughout his childhood, Sasuke has learned to apply himself to his goals with effort and determination. He strives to prove his own worth—first to a demanding father, second to a prodigal sibling, and third to the rivalry he develops with his genin teammate, Naruto. This determination is further warped into extremes by his clan's massacre and Itachi's manipulation. He is set on the path of seeking vengeance at all costs, which means he has to get stronger by any means necessary. Sasuke's determination to achieve his goal of revenge is the driving factor of most of his character arc, and once it is taken away, he moves onto a new goal, obsessively driven to the end. In Nightfell, he will naturally be more plot-motivated as a result, wanting to understand the new world and his place or "goal" within it.

+ PERCEPTIVE AND RESOURCEFUL. Sasuke is the type of person who adapts in the moment. In every encounter on the battlefield, he gathers information through experience and applies it to a solution, proving himself resourceful enough to make changes based on the strengths and weaknesses of his opponent. His perception abilities are remarked continuously throughout the series, partly aided by the Sharingan. He often manages narrow victories, as seen in his fight against Deidara, simply because of this adaptive prowess. It isn't so much an innate intelligence as it is the ability to come up with maneuvers and ideas on his feet, thinking quickly and using whatever tools are available to him to win. This natural adaptivity will help him adjust to his situation and surroundings in the Netherworld.

+ COMPASSIONATE. Surprisingly, Sasuke is a compassionate person who cares deeply for others. This is at odds with his cruel nature in a great part of the series, which is why he's deeply regretful of his behavior once he's been absolved by Naruto. He is the only person who feels empathy and compassion for Naruto in the early series, feeling a "kinship" with the other boy and seeing things through his point of view. Also, prior to Itachi's death, Sasuke made a point not to kill anyone he fought and only incapacitated his opponents in a compelling show of mercy instead. He cares about people, but unfortunately due to trauma and manipulation and shinobi culture at large, he is regularly led astray from this mindset. As I intend to have him struggle with his more violent side through his Shadow in game, it will be interesting to see how this conflicts with his compassionate nature. I also want him to have opportunities to rescue or help others in order to build closer relationships, further magnifying that tug-of-war between good and bad.

    Weaknesses:
    - EMOTIONALLY VOLATILE. Sasuke is driven primarily by his emotions. He feels things very strongly, and due to the nature of the series, many of these emotions are negative. He is scarred as a child by his clan's massacre; this opens him up to extreme anger and grief, making decisions based on irrational impulses in the moment that hinge upon his trauma. Unlike his brother, Sasuke has never been able to effectively or successfully cut himself off from his feelings. Part of this is due to the bonds he's formed with others, but another part is just his personality. Often these volatile emotions cause him to lash out with cruelty and make bad decisions, no matter how he struggles to maintain his composure. The Shadow will have a significant impact on his ability to control his emotions, challenging the restraint he's attempting to learn on his journey of atonement.

    - STANDOFFISH AND BLUNT. Perhaps the most surface level of his personality traits and what is demonstrated first in his interpersonal relationships, Sasuke can be a difficult person to get along with. He is standoffish with almost everyone, even those who know him, and he's likely to state his exact opinions as bluntly as possible even if it won't be taken well. He can come off rude in these situations, and he's often nitpicky of other people's behaviors (in part because it is how he treats himself in his own insecurity and perfectionism). When he isn't being rude, he's most likely being avoidant altogether to escape the engagement of social interaction and save himself the headache. My hope is that he will be forced to form closer relationships with others in game and wear away some of this prickly first impression.

Fears: Fear is one of the driving forces of Sasuke's life. He fears making the wrong choices again, he fears the intensity of his own emotion—which ultimately leads to a fear of strong attachment/bonds, and arguably a fear of love, as he's learned about the "curse" of his bloodline and what loss and grief do to Uchiha. Yet as much as he has striven to avoid those attachments, Sasuke also fears being alone, because he does crave the companionship of loved ones, and he misses his family. Another notable fear Sasuke has is the fear of his capacity for violence due to the Curse of Hatred inherent to his bloodline.

Desires: His main ambition is atonement for the choices and decisions he has made throughout the course of his life. If anyone has a history paved out of irrational and emotional mistakes, it's him. I would say, perhaps privately and unconsciously, he also desires family—but this is not something I see him living out in any healthy way, as Boruto (the sequel series) somewhat addresses.

Regrets: Plenty. He regrets killing his older brother, he regrets trying to kill Naruto (more than once), he regrets many of the violent and cruel actions that he took against others more generally, he regrets being alive as the sole survivor of his clan... There's not a lot to be proud of.

Tethers: Sasuke will have three. The first Tether will be to his older brother, Itachi, as a hologram. The second Tether is the one that represents his childhood, a dinosaur toy that he kept as a child. The third Tether, a leaf statuette, will signify his connection to Konoha and his former teammates. He also has a fourth Tether, which is a small fox totem, but this will disappear if/when Naruto is in game.
